In a night filled with anticipation and celebration, Green Building Renewables emerged as a shining star, clinching the prestigious title of Best Medium Business at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards. The event, held at Yorkshire Cricket Ground, Headingley brought together some of the region’s most influential and successful businesses, showcasing Yorkshire’s vibrant and thriving business community. This accolade not only reflects the company’s outstanding achievements in the last two years but also underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation in the renewable energy sector.

What are The Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards?

The Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards is an annual event, now in its 18th year, that recognises and honours outstanding achievements across various sectors in Yorkshire. The awards celebrate businesses with exceptional performance, innovation, and growth, and contributing significantly to the region’s economic development.

Winners were chosen by a panel of judges made up of business leaders from across Yorkshire. The awards were hosted by BBC Look North Presenter Amy Garcia.

Why we won the Excellence in Business Award

Our story over the last two years is one we have been celebrating and one which, we are proud has now been rewarded. Since we were established in 2021, we have emerged as the fastest-growing renewable installation company in the UK, with a resolute vision to become the country’s largest renewables installer by 2025. Our remarkable journey from our Dunnington headquarters near York to thirteen regional offices across England, is nothing short of awe-inspiring.  

Our core vision is to help people live more sustainable lives and we do this by installing renewable technologies, including solar PV panels, air and ground-source heat pumps, battery storage, and EV charging. However, it is not just the services we provide that we believe sets us apart; it’s the depth of our team’s technical knowledge, our commitment to excellence, and our unwavering belief in the power of renewables.  

Unlike many in the industry, we don’t rely on subcontractor engineers or installers. Instead, we have a dedicated in-house team of engineers, each carefully trained through our specially developed in-house program. Our engineers are local to the areas we serves, fostering a deep connection with the communities they impact.  

Over the past two years and since our nomination in the same category last year our accomplishments in the last 12 months, we believe played a significant role in helping us to win the award last night. They are:  

• We have emerged as the UK’s fastest-growing renewable installation company.  
• Through a strategic blend of acquisition and organic growth, we have expanded from a single office in York to an impressive network of thirteen regional offices strategically positioned across England.  
• Our turnover has surged more than tenfold, from £3 million to an impressive £38 million.  
• Our dedicated team has multiplied from 18 to 200.  
• In 2022, we installed over 1000 solar, heat pump and EV charger installations in the residential and commercial sectors.  
• We have won awards at three regional Energy Efficiency Awards finals. We also won the North Yorkshire Apprenticeship Award’s SME of the Year.  
• Our remarkable journey has been a recurring feature in regional and national media, showcasing our achievements and providing valuable consumer advice.  
• We have launched a commercial finance offer.   

Our nationwide network of renewable energy installation experts is a testament to our commitment to excellence and sustainability.   

The genesis of Green Building Renewables traces back to Go Eco Renewables, co-founded by Managing Director Chris Delaney and Group Technical Manager John Gilham. In December 2020, Go Eco was acquired by Efficient Building Solutions and subsequently rebranded as Green Building Renewables in 2021.  

Since then, our growth over the past two years has been remarkable. Our emphasis on understanding each customer’s unique requirements, location, and property has been instrumental in this journey.   

Our aim to accelerate the transformation of UK buildings to low carbon and renewable energy is ambitious and inspiring. By creating a nationwide network of local renewable energy installation experts, we believe that we can play a significant role in helping the UK reach its environmental aims.

Last year, we were nominated at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards in the same category; since then, our story has only become more robust, which is why we believe won the award last night.
