Poole-based H2ecO Ltd joins our nationwide network of renewable energy experts

Welcome H2ecO

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve just added the award-winning Poole-based H2ecO Limited to our growing nationwide network. This marks our twelfth acquisition in our buy-and-build strategy, propelling us further along England’s Southern Coast into Dorset, Wiltshire, and Somerset.

Since our formation in 2021, we’ve experienced phenomenal growth, expanding from a single office in York to sixteen locations across England. Our mission is to comprehensively cover England by the end of 2024 with our unique model of local talent and national excellence. The acquisition of H2ecO is a significant milestone in our journey toward becoming the UK’s leading green technology installation business by the end of 2025.

H2ecO is the 12th brand to join the Green Building Renewables’ network and the 14th company to join our group, which also includes our sister company 21°.

A Perfect Match

H2ecO, founded by the husband-and-wife duo Mike and Julie Stephenson, has been a pioneering force in the renewable technology sector for 14 years. Their expertise in solar, solar thermal, battery storage, MVHR, and heat pump technology has earned them numerous accolades, including Best Renewable Heat Project at the South West Energy Efficiency Awards and a national award for energy efficiency.

We are particularly excited about H2ecO’s on-site training facility, which aligns perfectly with our own ambitions for industry-leading training and development. The quality of their work and their dedication to renewable technology make them an ideal addition to the GBR family.

Strengthening Our Presence

Managing Director Chris Delaney expressed our enthusiasm, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome Mike and Julie’s team in Poole to the broader Green Building Renewables family. The South Coast is a prime location for homeowners and businesses to benefit from renewable technologies. We look forward to enabling more people in this region to improve the performance of their properties.”

H2ecO’s notable projects, such as the low-carbon heating solution for the Grade I*-listed Athelhampton House and Gardens in Dorchester, exemplify their innovative approach and technical excellence. These kinds of high-impact projects highlight the transformative potential of renewable energy technologies.

Looking Ahead

Our CEO, Alex Payne, emphasised the importance of high-quality installations in a market where quality can often vary. “Homeowners, businesses, and policymakers in the UK are becoming more aware of the need for high-performance buildings to transform the country’s building stock and meet the challenges that we face.

“The quality of low and renewable technology products now available is outstanding. They can transform how we generate and conserve energy and improve our comfort and health. However, these systems must be designed and installed properly, and they underperform if done poorly. Quality matters, especially in a loosely regulated market, so the people and talent we have within the company really set us apart from our competitors.

“Our buy-and-build strategy to assemble the best renewable technology experts across the county allows us to accelerate our market growth effectively and collectively develop industry-leading capabilities that others will not match. This is the group’s fourteenth acquisition, and adding H2ecO to Green Building Renewables’ network of companies is a perfect example of the high calibre of people we are bringing into and growing our business with. I welcome Mike, Julie and their team to ours and look forward to shaping the future performance of UK buildings with them.”

A Future-Focused Approach

In light of the recent General Election, energy and environmental policy is set to be a significant topic for the new government. The newly appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, has outlined priorities that align closely with our goals: achieving energy independence, cutting bills through clean power by 2030, and upgrading Britain’s homes to perform better.

As we move forward, we are more committed than ever to improving buildings’ energy performance and efficiency across the UK. Our buy-and-build strategy accelerates our market growth and ensures that we collectively develop industry-leading capabilities. With H2ecO now part of our team, we are well-positioned to lead the way in renewable technology and high-performance home solutions.

Stay tuned for more updates as we expand our horizons and bring cutting-edge renewable technologies to more regions across England.

Together, we are building a brighter, greener future.
