At Green Building Renewables, we’re passionate about educating and providing opportunities for the next generation of renewable energy experts. Last week, as part of our engagement with local educational institutions, we attended a careers convention at York College.

Our Group Technical Director, John Gilham, Efficient Building Solutions People Director, Jill Delaney, and Marketing Manager, Sarah Johnson, attended the event. They had the opportunity to speak to many students who were making decisions about the subjects they wanted to study and the careers they wanted to pursue.

We’re committed to inspiring the next generation of renewable energy experts. The career convention provided a chance to educate both students, and their parents, on the opportunities that a career in renewable technology and energy offers. The young minds currently in education across the country will be crucial in helping to transform the UK’s buildings and economy in a future made uncertain by the challenges of climate change.

Engaging with local Colleges and Universities in this way and inspiring the future workforce through interview training, open days, work experience, and training is essential for the renewable industry to continue transforming homes, buildings, and the way we use energy in the UK.

Efficient Building Solutions Marketing Manager, Sarah Johnson, commented, “I feel enthused by the students at York College following the careers convention we attended. Talking to the students making decisions about the careers they wanted to pursue and the world they wanted to work in was both positive and inspiring.”

At the career convention, our Group Technical Director, John Gilham and Efficient Building Solutions People Director, Jill Delaney, were shown the College’s modern training facilities. John discussed with the teaching staff ways the curriculum could be adapted to incorporate more about renewable technology, especially as the industry’s need for new renewable heating and electrical engineers for the future only grows.

John commented, “The training facilities at the College are excellent. Students using them to learn electrical and engineering skills can get a great start in understanding the skills needed for many jobs, including those in the renewable sector. We have our own training facilities for our apprentices in renewable technologies like solar PV, heat pumps and EV chargers. Without such facilities creating a well-trained and educated workforce, consumers risk being taken advantage of by poor installation and work.”

As our business grows its network of local renewable energy experts across the country, our need to recruit the best also increases. We are actively recruiting for several roles across the business.

Jill Delaney, Efficient Building Solutions people director, said: “The career convention was fantastic. It brings real hope to know that young people see the potential of a career in renewable energy. At Green Building Renewables, we always seek to hire the best people to join the business. Knowing that educational institutions like York College train the next generation provides great reassurance that we can continue to find the best people well into the future.”
